Gubijinsō 虞美人草, is commonly known as field poppy or corn poppy and first appeared in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Usually found as weed on roadsides, wastelands and in wheat fields, poppies stand out through their showy and vivid red colour and their naturally curved stem lines.
Japanese artist Kyosen Kawasaki depicts the delicate beauty of three blooming flowers and one bud in this unique woodblock print.
